Chiropractor

Dr. Geoffrey Poyle, DC

The first exposure to chiropractic for Dr. Geoff Poyle occurred when he was fifteen years old and suffered a neck injury while playing high school football. After his family doctor told him that he could not help Dr. Poyle, the head football coach referred him to a chiropractor. Weeks of treatment for his neck injury brought improvement so that Dr. Poyle eventually was able to help lead Elyria Catholic High School to two Ohio State football championships.

He earned a football scholarship to Indiana University where he lettered and became even more interested in the human body, chiropractic and nutrition. After graduating from Indiana University, he enrolled in The National College of Chiropractic and received his Doctorate of Chiropractic in 1994. In 1995, Dr. Poyle opened his practice, Chiropractic Concepts, here in Avon Lake, where he practiced for nine years.

Then Dr. Poyle and a group of wellness-minded therapists and physicians opened the Avon Lake Wellness Center, with the mission of helping patients restore health, lessen pain, and live full, enlightened lives. Dr. Poyle's practice is geared toward neuromusculoskeletal issues such as neck and back pain, but it also has an athletic and nutritional emphasis due to his athletic background.

Dr. Poyle enjoys exercising and sports, keeping up-to-date on advances in nutrition and chiropractic, and spending time with his wife and three children.  You may contact Dr. Poyle at drpoyle@avonlakewellness.com.

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is the branch of health care that focuses on proper alignment and mobility of the spine. Doctors of Chiropractic practice a drug-free, hands-on approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis, and treatment. Chiropractors have extensive diagnostic skills and are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, dietary, and lifestyle counseling.

Chiropractors can help many joint problems by aligning a patient’s spine to restore optimal function. Your spine can become misaligned by a car accident, sleeping the wrong way, gardening, working at the computer, feeling stress, or even sneezing. Activities we do everyday affect the spine.

The spine is at the intersection of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and the peripheral nervous system (nerves). The brain and spinal cord are best able to communicate with the nerves through a healthy, easily moveable spine, and this communication can be interrupted by poor alignment of the spine. Chiropractors can gently adjust the spine to restore alignment so that the brain and spinal cord can communicate properly with the nerves.
